An assessment report by a registered psychologist provides a professional diagnosis along with recommendations and strategies to improve functioning.
The diagnosis (or diagnoses) are based on data collected through observation, interview, background history, medical or academic records, and standardized testing – and the criteria in the standard psychological reference manual, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th edition).
The type of assessment report is determined by the purpose, which can include:
-
- clinical diagnosis (such as autism)
- psycho-educational assessment for academic supports / accommodations
- mental health and adaptive skills evaluation for funding / support programs such as: Federal Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), Disability Tax Credit (DTC), or Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH).
- psycho-social assessment to support request for workplace accommodations

Our clinic has focused on the needs of the “neuro-diverse”.
These individuals often have a neurological orientation that is usually strongly attuned to sensory data (sight, sound, touch, movement, taste, and smell) and logical fact-based thinking. Individuals with this neurological profile may appear “quirky” to others, and not always follow neurotypical “unwritten social rules”. Sometimes, these traits may meet the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for an Autism Spectrum Disorder (previously also known as Asperger’s).
Anxiety (particularly social anxiety), sensory sensitivity, and depression are often co-occurring conditions. Some individuals may also have a more complex profile (perhaps with some OCD or variable mood characteristics).
We work with children, families (e.g., parenting a quirky child), adolescents, young adults (transitioning to independent living), and couples (providing insights and strategies to deal with a neuro-diverse partner).

We provide support for individuals experiencing separation or divorce, with services that include:
- Acting as psychologist and parenting expert for Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Practice Note 7 (PN7) Intervention and Voice of the Child
- Development of a Co-Parenting Plan
- Co-Parenting Skills Coaching
We can also assist / act as advocate for individuals who are experiencing workplace problems (including wrongful dismissal) or facing legal problems that are directly impacted by their neurological differences (i.e., ASD).
